A SUPERB ORNATE CARVED & GILDED SWEPT PICTURE FRAME. A frame of sublime quality. Some losses which are detailed below, please see ALL the details & photos below. (to fit a picture). This is an incredible frame, not entirely sure of the age BUT certainly sure of the quality & calibre, mid-century-modern perhaps, 1950s/1960s at a guess alas! It is entirely hand-carved & gilded, I think the style is sometimes referred to as a’Lely’, with its series of large plain scroll-type panels to the longer sides & two smaller ones to the others it is also in many ways quite reminiscent of some Louis XIV frames that I have seen, a’cadre provencal’ if you will, you may wish to dor own research OR simply Google… The whole border has this fabulous highly-convoluted trail of schematic flower-head strapwork with various pierced cartouche corners, we have an inverted bead & bar sight edge & a complementary leaf-style back edge all of these carved motifs come together to contrast & dazzle beautifully… It does have some. Damages/losses to a couple of the corners, the extremities if you will, so one corner has had a pretty substantial bash which reveals the bare wood (pine) below, ironically, this damage illustrates just what exceptional quality the fray is. This is a top-quality carved frame conceived by a professional frame-maker at the top of their game, it is entirely hand-carved & hand-gilded, and it’s the sort of frame you would see in a major art gallery such is the standard of the carving & composition. Entirely hand-carved from a pine carcass the joint work here (can be seen verso) is incredible, this was a very expensive frame at the time of conception, no doubt destined for a major gallery or else an expensive personal commission. The tone of the gilding here is simply breathtaking & I believe it to be the original, patently this frame was designed to hold a serious artwork. Please excuse the poor lighting in some of the photos, the pics were taken over a couple of days in varying states of mixed weather conditions. This fantastic frame will really suit an exceptional artwork or an image of a loved one, it will also make a fabulous mirror; it is certainly a frame to grace any wall. Please refer to the photographs They are an accurate representation of the very good antique condition Any significant damages OR losses are always shown in the photos.. If you have any questions please ask. Condition; as mentioned above, we have one pretty major loss to one corner, so, a major component of this corner has broken away (see photos 6 & 7) right where the shell cartouche would be, revealing & exposing the pine wood beneath, my supposition is that at some point this frame has fallen over & sadly the extremities have taken the brunt of this, & so, where once we had pierced sections (with aforementioned shell & scrolls intact) we now see the plain wood & ironically, in doing so, we are also seeing just what high-quality carving we have here many of you frame enthusiasts out there will know precisely that it is quite possible & I recommend to take a cast from an adjacent two are perfect! Corner & to blend in the gilding, which is a strong bright gold tone & is the original, once done, this will be a mighty, mighty fine frame & in my opinion, despite being a little costly I believe this will be well worth doing, there is a similar smaller loss, to another corner, much, much smaller & the same goes with my recommendations for a restoration; together with the odd minor age commensurate ding to the border, but in truth nothing particularly noteworthy Super strong corners Age commensurate wear With.
